K-GEOG ! K-GEOG ! K-GEOG !

KOREA

THE HAN RIVER  ,Seoul , korea.

Background information
The Han river is a major river in South Korea . The fourth longest river on the Korean peninsula after the Amnok , Duman  and Nakdong  rivers . The total length of the Han River (to include its tributaries the Namhan and Bukhan Rivers) is approximately 514 kilometres .
The Namhangang (Namhan meaning 'South Han' and gang meaning 'river') is sometimes, but not always, referred to as the "Han" in South Korea. The term "South Han" is understood irrespective of which side of the border one stands.
What is today called the Han River has been called by different names through the course of Korean history.

have you ever wonder , how is a river formed ?

Rivers are channels of freshwater that pass through the land and get their start from the overflow of a larger body of water such as a lake. It can also form from runoff of heavy rains or snow melting from mountains. Rivers can start of small and get wider when different streams merge.

It is formed by erosion. Water flows through the land. It erodes the and forming a narrow channel. Water flows in these channels. When many of these channels meet they form a river.Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water within a river is generally collected from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge ,springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks

-LET'S GO SHOPPING -
Why not visit Lotte Department Store ?

A total of eight Lotte Department stores in Seoul alone , with stores in Jamsil  , Yeongdeungpo , Cheongnyangni , Gwanak , Gangnam , Nowon and Mia , totaling 24 department stores nationalwide .
Lotte department store in Korea large-scale department store chain, from the world’s top brands to the daily necessities readily available, and special duty-free shops, youth pop Square stores, leading fashion and cultural trends. In particular the supermarket food area is that many foreign tourists choice of travel gift to commemorate the must dos. Myeong-dong Lotte Department Store and the City Hall, Jongno, Myeong-dong area of commercial street connected to health would be well placed.

Can't decide what to eat for dinner ?

Why not try a Korean barbecue restaurant,

                          Byeokjae Galbi (벽재갈비)

The meat comes from organically fed Korean cows, also known as hanwoo, which is much expensive than most of the imported beef.

No list would be complete without a good old fashioned Korean barbecue restaurant. When it comes to meat on a grill, nothing is more important than the quality of the meat, and no one is more obsessive about that than the owners of Byeokjae Galbi.
Byeokje Galbi's hanwoo comes from a farm in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, that is owned and maintained by the restaurant itself. That's the kind of obsessiveness we like to see. And taste.

KOREA, KOREA!!

Hyeopjae Beach  (협재해수욕장) is located on the west side of Hanrim-eup, and is part of Hanrim Park. The beautiful white color of the sand comes from the large amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in with the sand. The long seashore stretches for 9 km and has cobalt blue sea and evergreen woods scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very beautiful.

Hanrim Park nearby, provides interesting tour sites such as a subtropical arboretum, Hyeopjaegul Cave, and Ssangyonggul Cave.

OPPA GANGNAM STYLE

Photo: So everyone's talking about GANGNAM STYLE (or even Singapore Style). But do you know where Gangnam is and what the district offers?

Gangnam means "south of the river" and is located south of the Hangang River in Seoul. The district is lined with a dazzling array of glitzy shops selling everything from designer items to unique vintage clothes. The young and fashionable gather here in force and Hallyu celebrity sightings are common.

Go on, take a trip to Gangnam and you can officially declare yourself as truly GANGNAM STYLE-d. =]

The Crafting Journey

The team started by brainstorming to the following questions:

  • What do they like about Geography?
  • How can learning of Geography be made more interesting?
  • What can be done to help other students increase they interest for  Geography?
  • Can there be a platform to share information and interesting knowledge for the topics covered in Geography?
  • Can the use of ICT and social media be helpful?
At the end of the brainstorming,
the team had decided to create this blog and a Facebook page!!!

Mount Everest

Mount Everest is the Earth's highest mountain, with a peak at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. The international border between China and Nepal runs across the precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft); and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).

                         The Tibetan Plateau

The Tibetan Plateau is surrounded by massive mountain ranges. The plateau is bordered to the south by the Himalayan range, to the north by the Kunlun Range which separates it from the Tarim Basin, and to the northeast by the Qilian Range which separates the plateau from the Hexi Corridor and Gobi Desert. To the east and southeast the plateau gives way to the forested gorge and ridge geography of the mountainous headwaters of the Salween, Mekong, and Yangtze rivers in western Sichuan (the Hengduan Mountains) and southwest Qinghai. In the west the curve of the rugged Karakoram range of northern Kashmir embraces it.
